All across Mexico tonight, towns and cities will gather in the community square to witness the reenactment of “El Grito” – the call to arms, the call for independence made by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a local peasant priest, in 1810. This spark eventually led to the uprising that ousted the Spanish from Mexico.
