Hurricanes, Tropical Storms and Festivals

The Todos Santos Festival del Pilar opened last night. I didn’t attend since my daughter had school early this morning. Seems to me the kids should get Friday off during festival week. It’s only once a year and many of them didn’t make it to school anyway. If it doesn’t rain, a big if, I’ll attend tonight. One note about the midway rides this year – there is NO Ferris Wheel. How could they? It’s my favorite ride!

Hurricane Norbert: dropped from Cat 4 to Cat 1 overnight and now back to Cat 2 and heading north at 10 mph. He’s expect to turn northeast towards Magdelena Bay at 14 mph and make landfall Saturday morning about 150 miles north of Todos Santos. That puts us right on the southern edge of the hurricane warning area. We are solidly in the tropical storm warning area though and will likely get rain and strong winds tonight and tomorrow.

As if the threat of Norbert (who thinks up these names anyway?) wasn’t enough, further south is Tropical Storm Odile. Right now it appears she will go west but when storms parallel the mainland you never really know. They could take a right turn and hit Mexico directly or slid up into the Sea of Cortez and make a mess of the East Cape area. Sometimes they even make the turn around Los Cabos and come up the west coast and threaten Todos Santos. We will have to watch Odile.
