According to information found in Jane Hagus’ book, “Treasures of Todos Santos”, Profe. Nestor began teaching in Todos Santos when he was 18 years old. “Nestor taught elementary school and was a specialist in music and the performing arts. He formed groups of students who sang for dignitaries and special functions. One such performance was the driving force behind the building of Teatro Marquez de Leon.”
Profe. Nestor and his performing groups also helped raise money to build the town’s hospital, Centro de Salud. Profe. Nestor and his father were instrumental in the founding of the “internado”, a house where rancho students could sleep and eat in town so they could attend school.
Profe. Nestor ran the Todos Santos Cultural Center for years. In 1999, the center moved to its current location on the corner of Juarez and Obregon streets. In 2002, the building was christened “Profe. Nestor Culutural Center” to acknowledge his devotion and hard work.
