Big Surf in Todos Santos Baja Dec 10, 2009

The monster swell that brought 40 foot waves to the north shore of Hawaii arrived in Todos Santos today. At least one set was triple overhead, nearly 20 foot faces! Not too many bodies were in the water, but they all stayed in the same area. Some great surfing to watch and more coming tomorrow. I can hear the waves pounding as I write this.

Here’s a taste of eye candy. There was a lot of spray in the air making the photos less contrasty and a bit hazy at times. I was shooting (for those who care) with a Canon 5d MII (not really a sports camera), 1.4x tele-extender and 300mm f2.8 (non IS) lens. My aluminum tripod was thoroughly (c)rusted from last season even though I stored it inside the house and I could only extend it 3 feet. Later in the day, it took 1/2 hour, many tools and lots of WD40 to get it working properly again. I’ll be out again in the morning tomorrow for more photos.

December 2009 El Calendario de Todos Santos Posted

Hi All! Yes, I know, I have been seriously missing in action. Where did November go? I could list endless reasons and excuses but none of them change the fact that I haven’t posted ANYTHING in many weeks.  But watch out, I’m back.

Top order of business is the new December edition of El Calendario de Todos Santos. I just now finished posting it to the web so you can view it at www.elcalendariodetodossantos.com – just click on the cover icon. The latest editions are towards the bottom of the cover list.

This month’s artist is Melissa Chandon, a new artist in town who will be exhibiting at Jill Logan’s gallery. Melissa hails from Davis, Ca., and I think you’ll like her unique view of the world. Here’s the cover:

Todos Santos only english language news event magazine

This month’s print edition should be on the streets by tomorrow, December 11. We are using a new, very professional printer in Ciudad Juarez and they seem to be able to deliver the issue faster than our previous printer.
