As I was leaving Todos Santos for La Paz on Sunday afternoon, I saw 3 large columns of smoke in the sky. Following the trail took me to San Vincente, a barrio on the south side of town, where I used to live. As usual, a fire had started in the huerta, this time near Nanette Hayles’ gallery/house. The wind carried the fire towards Oscar and Tori’s house and on to the El Litro trailer park.
When I return to Todos Santos I’ll know more but a friend told me that some houses were damaged, Oscar’s boat destroyed and a trailer in El Litro exploded. I don’t know if anyone was hurt or not. I certainly hope not. I forgot to take a camera with me to La Paz, so no photos – sorry.
The police and firemen were out in full force taking control of the situation and on the road to La Paz, another fire truck was approaching Todos Santos from La Paz. Usually these fires are started by accident by drunks in the huerta – and usually on weekends when drinking is the heaviest.
